What is PRP and how is it used to help correct facial aging?

PRP which stands for Platelet Rich Plasma is in fact platelets and fibrin which can be injected into areas of skin requiring volume/improvement. It has been used in the face, neck, and hands and is considered a very safe option that has extended longevity of upwards of 2 years.
The way PRP works is through the action of growth factors that are present within platelets. Growth factors activate cells in our body and can help in encouraging collagen growth and triggering new skin cells. This results in a rejuvenated look which includes thicker collagen and also repaired skin cells helping reverse the loss of facial volume, and improve skin quality.
It can even be used to address acne prone skin, and also acne scarring. The procedure takes approximately 15-20 minutes and begins with a quick blood draw after which point in time the blood is prepared so as to draw out the platelets and growth factors. After this is performed, the growth factors are then re-injected into those regions of the face that require rejuvenation.
The results can take upwards of 5 weeks but improvement will be seen gradually during this time period. PRP continues to be a great option for patient’s seeking natural improvement without the need for synthetic fillers/products.
