The patient usually goes home within a few hours of surgery, but cannot resume full normal activity for about 10 days. Often times the only pain that is involved is a result of the liposuction versus the actual chin implant itself. Most patients must limit chewing and stay on a soft diet for a few days.
The dressing which is typically a neck strap will remain in place for five to seven days. It takes about six weeks for swelling to resolve and the result is a new sharp angle to the neck helping achieve new symmetry to the lower facial subunit in accordance with the entire face as a unit.
